The REAL champions of civil rights

In the middle of his latest racially-charged tweetstorm, Donald Trump called himself “a true Champion of Civil Rights.” Let’s review his qualifications for that title.

Before taking office, Trump had a history of attacking and discriminating against people of color. He and his employees enforced illegal housing practices that kept black tenants out of his buildings. Trump himself even called for the death penalty for the exonerated “Central Park Five.”

Since becoming president, Trump has actively demeaned and disrespected entire communities with racist rhetoric and pushed an agenda that tramples on the rights of women, immigrants, and voters of color.

So, a champion of civil rights? Not. Even. Close.

The NAACP has been at the forefront of combating Trump and anyone in his administration who seeks to take people of color back to second-class citizen status. We’ve fought hard for our victories against the president and his cronies, including our recent win on the DACA program.

However, standing up for civil rights in the Trump era is a years-long fight. We need people like you—people who care about keeping America on the path toward real justice and equality for all—to stand with us and support our efforts.

The NAACP – unlike Donald Trump – actually fights for a more inclusive America every day. Support the REAL champions of civil rights and join in our efforts by becoming a member or encouraging others to become a member today.
