Take the time to nominate someone today! The Buffalo Branch NAACP is asking for members of Buffalo and surrounding region to nominate a candidate for one of four awards. Presentation of the awards will be given at the Megar Evers Award Dinner, Saturday June 22nd 2024 at Buffalo/Niagara Convention Center. Public announcement of the awardees will be made prior to the dinner.
Please see the award titles and criteria below. Only one award per title will be given. Nominations must be submitted in writing (not to exceed 2 pages) no later than Friday, APRIL 19TH, via email at naacp@buffalonaacp.org or post marked no later than the due date.
Award Criteria
- Medgar Evers Civil Rights Award: This award is given to an outstanding individual championing and speaking of the rights of the underclass or making the public aware either through the written or electronic press.
- Daniel Acker Community Service Award: This award is given to an individual, group, or organization exemplifying outstanding volunteer community involvement. This involvement should include the advancement of the community as a whole.
- Rufus Frasier Human Relations Award: This award is given to an individual, group, or organization that has done a significant amount of volunteer service for the advancement of human or race relations.
- Youth Award: This award is given to a youth who has demonstrated significant assistance to the community involving but not limited to youth associations, school, churches, community-based organizations and has exemplified excellent judgment in helping others. Volunteer activity other than that required for school credit will be strongly considered. This award is offered to a youth who is currently enrolled in grades 5 though 12.
PLEASE NOTE: Award selections will be based upon the nominee’s commitment to uplifting the community and those who would benefit from the service or volunteerism they provide. The individual must espouse the mission of the NAACP.
The person submitting the nomination must include their own name and contact information along with the nominee’s name, phone, street address, and email address. Petitions will not be considered. There is a hard deadline of Friday, APRIL 19, 2024, to receive nominations via email or by post mark. No further extensions will be granted.
